Engine mounts are the rubber-and-metal isolators that hold your engine in place and absorb the vibration and torque reaction that would otherwise be transmitted directly to the chassis — and when they wear out you feel it as an increase in cabin vibration, a clunking noise on acceleration or gear changes, and in severe cases visible engine movement under the bonnet.
